1895 New York State Militia Uniform Grouping -Span Am War Era

New York State Militia Tunic. All wool dark blue with white piping. Matching and all original N.Y. State Excelsior brass buttons on breast and sleeves. Wool white and Sky Blue (infantry) Corporal chevrons. Sleeve (Inside) shoulder dated 1895.Fabric liner intact and all original. Original U.S M1895 Forage Cap- 71ST Infantry Co. D brass screw disc mounted hat badge. The 71ST New York State Volunteers participated in the First Brigade charge on San Juan Hill, July 1,1898. Cap remains in good condition, has no mothing, is all intact including its original chin strap and NY State Excelsior side buttons and presents nicely on display. Fabric liner is all intact and only has one hole at the crown where the makers logo is. Leather sweatband is missing. Cap is not marked for size but is fairly small, probably around a 6 ¾”. Sky Blue Wool U.S. Army (Marked) regulation white strip corporal trousers. Waist 31 /32 length. Original Army Brass buttons fly and pockets all intact. QMC marking inside waist line. No mothing and all good condition. Common Soldiering Boot-Manufactured by C.H. Hyer & Son. The “Stove pipe” boot is dated 1847 to 1900. It was first known as a Common Boot and worn reaching almost to the knee and wide only enough so the trousers could be tucked, yet the trousers were generally worn over the boot. This pair of field worn boots were used by the US Army in the Span American war. It is lined with original cow hide with Hyer name. The toe is a moderate square and the heel is 1 1/4". The top of the boot is about 20" from the ground. The leather is field worn with original brown color. It has a full lining and intact. This boot was worn by drovers, prospectors, shooters and soldiers (before the cowboy boots). Period Military gauntlet gloves are padded buck skin in mint condition from the Daniel Hayes Company. Original New York State Militia Buckle and sword belt. Brass with decorative black finish. Original adjustable Black leather belt in good condition.
